These are basically landscaping spikes, so they will drive into most any ground - even packed gravel. I wouldn't recommend for sand or snow, as there are purpose built stakes for that. You can drive them through a grommet or nylon loop, hook a loop under the groove on the cap then drive it below grade a hair, or run a guy line through the hole in the cap. The only thing to be mindful of is to be sure and strike the nail when driving, not the plastic cap - the WILL break. The plastic cap can be pushed down the nail to avoid, and will set itself into place as you drive all the way to the ground. I plan to get a couple more sets to upgrade the ez-ups as well. When they wear out and get lost, I will replace them.

These stakes are much more substantial than standard kit tent stakes, and held up to multiple nights of 50 mph winds. The plastic piece helps you get enough leverage to remove the stakes fairly easily, but it's all also strong enough to wedge another stake underneath to pry one up if needed.

Very happy with the purchase. Had trouble getting them out of the ground when tearing down camp, but all you have to do is wiggle them loose a bit. Well worth the money spent.

These are good solid stakes, with a good length, and they were definitely a good purchase. I would recommend them.

These things are pretty nice. Super sturdy - if you bend one you were doing something wrong, maybe hammering into bedrock or a big root? They are long, so they will be secure even in the sandy soil of Florida. They come with a length of cord and an extra plastic piece that slides on the spike in case you break a spike.
